The ancient and wonderful
:: Bartender Activate ::
Welcome back to The Space Bar.
Did you know that the word "beer" traces its origins all the way back to the Latin word "bibere," which means "to drink"? Beer has always had a way of bringing people together, even in its linguistic roots.
But how old is beer?
Although the exact origins of beer are still a bit hazy (like one of them IPAs), one thing is clear: those wild Sumerians of Mesopotamia were like the rock stars of brewing. They took beer to new heights and made it the recognized and beloved beverage we all enjoy today.
In a time when malnutrition was running rampant, brewing beer actually had some unexpected health benefits. You see, boiling water with nutrient-rich barley made it safer to drink, and the discovery of alcohol brought some much-needed happiness to people's lives. It's like the ultimate combo of nourishment and joy. Beer, you magnificent elixir, you!
As the Babylonians took the brewing reins from the Sumerians, beer production went into overdrive. As trade across the region grew, brewing secrets were spread faster than a racing drone, and the government got involved too. They started creating laws for commercial use and value. Ah, the ancient art of regulating booze. Some things never change!
Now, here's where things get fascinatingly mystical. The Egyptians, always ones to infuse some magic into everything, believed that brewing came from the gods themselves. They credited Osiris, the god of the afterlife, with bestowing upon them the divine knowledge of beer-making. And they even experimented with beer for medicinal purposes.
But as the days of Greece and Rome rolled in, wine became the new superstar. Beer took a back seat, like the shy wallflower at a dance, while wine stole the spotlight. It was like a cosmic battle between fermented beverages.
(Who would have thought that wine could be so dramatic? The grapevines were probably feeling pretty smug at the time.)
But fear not, my fellow beer enthusiasts!
Beer has always been the drink of the people, the underdog, the everyday hero. It may be the entry level of libations, but don't underestimate its complexity and artistry. The recent explosion of independent breweries is proof that beer is constantly evolving, offering an endless array of flavors and styles. From hoppy IPAs to smooth stouts, there's a brew for every palate and personality.
Beer will always have a home at the Space Bar. Tell us your favorite pub, bar or brewery and we’ll feature it!
May your pints be full. We’ll see you next week.
Cheers!

Network Update
This week, the humans are exploring Augmented Reality for the Bar Bots. To prototype the process they’ve been using our favorite 3d degen friends, The VOID. Fear not, you can see a Bar Bot in engine on the screen behind, on deck for some spacial computing. Cheers!

This week’s bar recommendation is: Pirates Point, St Mary’s, Georgia
Bar Bot Rank: 08/10
Dive2Fancy: DivelikeaPirate
DrinkPrice: Low
Atmosphere: JimmyBuffet
Pirates Point is a small strip mall joint on the seaside swampland of St. Mary’s, Georgia (right on the border of Florida.) This place is packed with boating locals and sunburnt snowbirds listening to Jimmy Buffet amongst beat-up pirate-themed woodwork. You’ll get the basics on the beers and bottom shelf alcohol, but the fried pickles are worth it.
